Static Pile

The static pile composting process features more technology than the turn pile process for a lower infrastructure spend than in-vessel composting.

It’s suited to facilities with larger composting footprints and lower infrastructure requirements. The aerated static pile method uses an aerated floor system similar to in-vessel with automated supply of air to the composting materials. Fans and aeration provide direct control of the aeration process. This allows larger piles and minimal turning of the materials is needed.

Our Wogamia site infrastructure improvements included conversion of turn piled (windrow) composting infrastructure to a static pile process.

This facility can now process 30,000 tonnes of food and garden organics per annum using a forced aeration system. This reduced the facility’s composting footprint from 20,000 to 5,000 square metres and improved environmental and process controls as well as efficiency in our operations.
