Summer in the garden is an excellent time to consider mulch.
Hot days and summer activities can discourage us from slaving in the yard. To give our plants a bit of protection and help them get through blistering days it is worth considering applying mulch.
Not only does mulch conserve water and reduce evaporation, it also protects roots and helps to overcome temperature stress. Small seedlings can be protected from sunlight and wind by being surrounded by mulch.
When mulching, the main point to remember is that plants don’t like to lean against mulch. Always leave a space around them so that fungal diseases don’t take hold.
