DECORATIVE MULCHES

Mulches are materials placed over the soil surface to reduce evaporation and erosion, retard weed growth, and insulate plants from temperature extremes. Mulch retains moisture by shielding the soil from the sun and enhances conditions for healthy micro-organism growth. It also assists erosion control and helps to minimise storm water run-off.

Organic mulches are derived from natural materials and will eventually break down and decompose. This slow decomposition adds nutrients to the soil in the longer term. Mulching is an essential gardening practice.
